Heyooo - coming at you all live from a conference in Chicago this week, where I yesterday I spoke on a little panel. ‘Twas super fun, but all of the panel prepping and traveling sapped up the time I’d usually write Park It. I was optimistic I’d be able to write on the plane this past Saturday, but I had a 6 am flight out of SF so … who was I kidding. I was snoozing the morning away. BUT I couldn’t let this day go by without acknowledging that it’s Park It’s first birthday!!!
I truly can’t believe I’ve been writing this thing for 365 whole days. It started as a fun exercise to get me back into writing, and I could have never imagined that it would leave me to having conversations with people like
and Jim O’Heir. It’s been such a blast!! My friends have been so supportive!! I’m loving every single moment of it!!There’s lots more to come this year. I have sooo much I want to write about — Hacks, Veep, Amy Poehler’s new podcast, Abbott Elementary, Nikki Glaser, the Handsome pod, Broad City and its most iconic episodes …. on top of our weekly Parks and Rec episodes. Lots to come!
I’ll be back next week with our regularly scheduled programming, but in the meantime, check out some of my favorite weekly installments from this year to kill the time. Also if anyone wants stickers …. I have 200+ to give away. Help.
Tell your friends, tell your coworkers, tell your fellow sitcom lovers — it’s not too late to get on board. We haven’t even watched “The Fight” yet!
Jim O'Heir didn't Jerry this interview
There’s always a butt of every joke, and Parks and Rec’s favorite butt is the one and only Jerry Gergich, played by Jim O’Heir. Jerry’s an iconic character – he’s never pronouncing words correctly (let’s not forget “murinal”); he’s got massive bowel problems (the fart attack); he’s got the “largest penis I’ve ever seen”, according to the local Pawnee do…
Just really good, special people
STOKED to bring you all a special edition of Park It today: a conversation with the one and only Jennifer Keishin Armstrong! Jennifer writes two Substacks — Culture Trip and Ministry of Pop Culture — and is in the middle of writing her 9th book, which
Pull up a seat and Park It!
The first time I knew I loved funny women, I was in the Richmond airport and had just picked up a copy of Bossypants from the local Hudson News. I had a long flight back to SF after winter break home from college and needed something to kill the six-plus hours ahead of me. Prior to this, my exposure to comedians was the same as your average teenager. Kr…
SNL's really good right now!
I KNOW it’s not Parks and Rec, but as I was sitting down to work on this week’s Park It, I couldn’t stop thinking about SNL. Which is fine! I’ve broken the Park It framework to write about SNL character breaks before and I’ll do it again. I can write about whatever the hell I want here.
